Relay for Life

Last night, in the rain, me and the girls decided to go walk at the Relay for Life. Although I wasn't able to pledge with anyone or anything... I still felt like I would be able to go out and support the cause of helping find the cure for cancer. This is something that I am now going to make a tradition out of since my father passed away from cancer one year ago. I think that the timing of it all works out and has become a way for me to "cope" with his death. To think about him and everything. It is also really neat to have the girls go with me to do this. Mya is so sweet and asks so many questions as to why we do what we do. She walked around the track with me for hours asking so many questions.

I don't know if any of you have ever walked in the Relay for Life but it truly is a powerful and amazing experience. There was a point that they do the Illuminary Ceremony where they light illuminaries for all those who have passed on and that we are honoring. They then have everyone take a lap in silence. WOW! It was so amazing to walk the track with so many people who understand and have been affected by cancer in one way, shape or form. It was even more powerful as my girls walked hand in hand with me in silence the whole way. I think that THEY even felt the power behind it all.

I love new traditions and this will be one that I will now do every year for the rest of my life. My girls will grow up understanding this and being right there beside me. May we one day find the cure for this horrible disease that has affected WAY too many of us.
